Area Police
Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the incident left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
